Consumer Information on Hearing Aids & Hearing Loss

Eyeglass and Body Hearing Aids

Body hearing aids are the oldest form of hearing aids around. Typically, a body hearing aid consists of an external sound processor and an earpiece attached by a cable. The sound processor unit can be worn on a belt or around the neck from a lanyard. Some models house the electronics in an eyeglass frame.

Because the earpiece and electronics are separated, feedback is reduced and a large amplifier and battery can be used as size is not a constraint in design. Body hearing aids are not very popular today as they are large and clunky compared to models worn in the ear, but are cheap and can provide large amounts of amplification to persons who suffer severe hearing loss.
