The Hearing Aids Guide

Consumer Information on Hearing Aids & Hearing Loss

Behind-The-Ear (BTE) Hearing Aids

BTE hearing aids are designed to fit behind the ear and are attached with a custom earmold, which directs sound to the eardrum. BTE hearing aids are relatively large, which translates into higher amplification and a larger battery (and less recharging).

BTE hearing aids come in a variety of colors and patterns to either blend in or become a fashion accessory. Behind-The-Ear hearing aids can handle all types of hearing loss and can even be plugged into external sound equipment, such as a stero or a television.

BTE hearing aids are ideal for children as the device sits outside the ear canal.
