Consumer Information on Hearing Aids & Hearing Loss

In-The-Canal (ITC) Hearing Aids

ITC hearing aids are designed to fit into the actual ear canal. They represent a step between the larger ITE (In-the-Ear) hearing aids and the smaller CIC (Completely-in-Canal) hearing aids. ITC hearing aids are popular as they are not easily noticed and also offer a more natural sound amplification due to the closeness to the eardrum.

ITC hearing aids are suited for a person with mild to moderate hearing loss and are not recommended for children as their ear canals are growing.

Another disadvantage to ITC hearing aids is that their tiny volume controls and battery doors are difficult to manipulate. However, they are not as noticeable as in-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids. ITC hearing aids come in "canal" and "mini-canal" styles.
